Summer 2023
During my 8 week internship at Txtur Living, I was asked to design a cost efficient fixed-back lounge system that fits into their existing product line.
Rapid prototyping | Design for Manufacturing
Brand Analysis
Txtur takes pride in creating furniture as unique as their customers. Each piece is fully customizable, made from quality materials, hand-crafted, and long lasting.
Their current sofas are blocky with straight edges, but their customers are looking for something different.
Ideation
A curved shape with clean lines and thoughtful details stands out from their current products while maintaining what their furniture is known for.
Defining details
Slab seats and fixed backs reduce manufacturing costs. A wood trim emphasizes clean lines with well-defined edges and a corner seam allows Txtur to highlight their craftsmanship.
Prototyping
Constant prototyping throughout my 8 week internship allowed me to try various body proportions, seat pitches, and upholstery details. I supported and assisted production associates throughout assembly runs to ensure that each step was clear and intuitive for them.
Reflection
The final collection consists of three pieces: a sofa, a lounge chair, and a swivel chair. They are available for purchase from Txtur Living in a range of fabrics from soft cottons to leathers.
Working in a production environment allowed me to gain hands-on experience with real world constraints. I am extremely grateful for the production associates who constantly provided guidance and support around the factory!
